The Queen of the Forest

Birch trees grow slim and upright, and their snow-white bark gives them a unique sense of clarity. Because of their elegant look in snowy landscapes and near clear mountain streams, they are often called the “Queens of the Forest.” Their white bark, which can last for centuries, peels off in fine layers and was once even used as paper. Their roots, sap, and even the mushrooms growing on their trunks were traditionally used in natural medicine.

A Natural Source of Hydration

In spring—before the first leaves appear—the so-called “white sap” is collected from the birch trunk. This slightly sweet plant sap is rich in Natural Moisturizing Factors (NMF). These NMF include, among others, amino acids, lactic acid, pyrrolidone carboxylic acid (PCA) and hyaluronic acid—substances that help the skin retain moisture and strengthen its protective barrier.
